Okay, can we all agree that Garry Marshall is a one-hit wonder? The guy directed ‘Pretty Woman’ in the ‘90s, and that’s pretty much the only highlight of his long career in the business. He recently rebirthed a trend in Hollywood of making occasion-themed days into fleshed out feature films, as seen in ‘Valentine’s Day’ and ‘New Year’s Eve’. And now to round up his holiday films (I hope), we got ‘Mother’s Day’, because why the hell not?!
It stars a large ensemble comprised of Jason Sudeikis, Jennifer Aniston, Julia Roberts, Kate Hudson and Britt Robertson, filling in the multiple plot-lines related to celebrating mother’s day, desperate of intertwining it altogether to create a tangled mess.
You’ll probably assume the movie honors and at least give respect to all mothers. And while it tries to reach that, the writers embarrassingly create character moms who are either ignorantly racist or just plain unlikeable. There’s nothing respectful in this movie, because you never even get it from the people inside it. What’s even worse was the fact that they want to squeeze a lot of laughs out of their wrongdoings, which is very offensive.
Garry Marshall’s ‘Mother’s Day’ is a clear evidence that the director needs to back-off for a while. It is unfunny, poorly-written and insulting piece of cinema, and definitely one of the worst films this year has to offer.
The geek rates it 1/10!
‘Mother’s Day’ is now showing in cinemas nationwide from OctorArts Films International.
