As a film possessing the premise of a dying man finding love in his final days, 'Me Before You' barely tries to flesh out the drama it could've had. Instead, it focuses itself to discuss the joys in life, and why it is worth giving a longer stay.
Emilia Clarke plays the caretaker to Sam Claflin's ill character, and they both shine with very convincing performances, offering layers to their roles even if the screenplay didn't demand it. Their scenes together is what made the film quite a big charmer, realistically depicting love as something that is formed internally and not through action/ words.
'Me Before You' is lovely, mostly thanks to the two leads. Their performances were strong enough to a point where you can disregard the film's obvious flaws. It's sweet and all, but it could've reach for more potential in its pivotal moments.
The geek rates it 7/10!
'Me Before You' opens this Wednesday, June 15, from Warner Bros. Pictures Philippines. Rated PG by the MTRCB.
