‘Fast and Furious 8’ is just plain stupid. And do we really care by now? Not really.
The ‘Fast and Furious’ franchise has evolved from being a plain drag racing flick into something that is overwhelmingly ridiculous, and they keep upping the ante of madness each movie. So far we’ve seen cars jumping from planes, cliffs, and the skyscrapers of Dubai. In this recent installment, get ready to witness cars battling a submarine with missiles, in the middle of a melting ice track – and that’s just the tip of the iceberg (no pun intended).
If its action sequences couldn’t get any more ridiculous, the film follows Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) becoming the big baddie against his team known as “family” after being manipulated by Charlize Theron’s character named Cipher through visuals on a phone. What’s in the phone, you may ask? We never really get to know the answer to that throughout the movie.
‘Fast and Furious 8’ is also guilty of trying to become very serious at times. And when I say serious, I mean soap opera level of drama. Combining it with the fun, over the top action sequences, it fits very well, even though it gets to the point of being exhausting.
Despite having glorious banters and fistfights between Statham and Johnson (which turned out to be the best part of the film), and the fact that this movie is itself consist of bad-yet-enjoyable moments, ‘Fast and Furious 8’ surprisingly ended up becoming a borefest on its supposedly pivotal moments. It was able to grab its enjoying audience, until it’s not.
