Two films by Mike De Leon, ‘Kisapmata’ and ‘Itim’ will soon be undergoing restoration process abroad.
The announcement was made after Solar Pictures’ acquisition of the former film. ‘Kisapmata’ is a 1981 family thriller starring Charo Santos, Vic Silayan, Jay Ilagan, and Charito Solis and was inspired by Nick Joaquin’s essay ‘The House on Zapote Street’ that documented a family murdered by a father.
L’Immagine Ritrovata will be preserving the film using film elements kept at Singapore’s Asia Film Archive.
“The final restored version will retain its original wide screen 1.85 to 1 aspect ratio. Restoration will take approximately 7 to 9 months, excluding color grading and audio restoration,” De Leon said.
Restoration of the 1976 spiritual horror ‘Itim’ also starring Santos will be made after ‘Kisapmata,’ using original negatives kept at the British Film Institute and is produced by Cinema Artists Philippines.
