Todd Phillips' Joker: Folie À Deux is now geared up to join the awards season conversation this year as the film is officially selected for competition in the 81st Venice International Film Festival.

The Joker sequel joins the upcoming films of Pedro Almodovar, Luca Guadagnino, and Justin Kurzel in the participating titles of the prestigious festival. The first film premiered at the same festival in 2019 where it won the Golden Lion (equivalent to Best Picture).

Joker: Folie À Deux finds Arthur Fleck institutionalized at Arkham awaiting trial for his crimes as Joker. While struggling with his dual identity, Arthur not only stumbles upon true love, but also finds the music that's always been inside him.

The film, which stars stars Joaquin Phoenix, Lady Gaga, Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Zazie Beetz, and Steve Coogan, also unveils a new trailer in anticipation of its release.

Joker: Folie À Deux will premiere in cinemas on October 3 from Warner Bros. Pictures.
